Clackamas County Sheriff's Office is pleased to announce their sponsorship of the "7th Annual Child Abuse Summit & Family Violence Conference", from April 19th – 21st at the Red Lion Hotel on the River, 909 N. Hayden Island Drive, Portland, Oregon 97217. This summit will attack this pervasive, nationwide problem head on in a two and a half day multi-disciplinary conference. It is expected that more than 600 professionals from throughout the US and abroad who specialize in the fields of law enforcement, protective services, prosecutors, medical, mental health, educators, offender treatment, parole and probation, child advocates and other related disciplines will be in attendance.
The focus of the conference is to broaden professional's knowledge base and increase awareness of where they fit into solving the complex problems associated with child abuse and domestic violence. New approaches to investigations, treatment and prevention programs will be highlighted. There will also be an awards ceremony to honor Champions for Children, outstanding persons, businesses and community organizations in the field of child abuse and family violence.
Keynote speaker, former Miss America, Marilyn Van Derbur, is a motivational speaker and author of award winning book, "Miss America by Day". Ms. Van Derbur is also a survivor of child abuse whose personal story has touched tens of thousands of survivors who turned to her for help and support. Guest speaker, Victor I. Vieth, the Director, American Prosecutors Research Institute's National Child Protection Training Center, is the author of numerous articles pertaining to issues of child abuse and domestic violence, including "Unto the Third Generation". This article sets a bold initiative for eliminating child abuse in the United States in the course of a century.
National speaker, Naomi Haines Griffith, a consultant on child welfare issues, uses humor and her own experiences to challenge and inspire audiences.
