Press Release from: Clackamas Co. Sheriff's Office

SEARCH CONTINUES FOR MISSING OREGON CITY MAN

Posted: January 10th, 2006 9:19 AM

The search will continue today for Albert Zverev who has been missing since Saturday from the area of Austin Hot Springs, east of Estacada.

On Monday, Search and rescue personnel from Clackamas County Sheriff's Office Search and Rescue Unit, Clackamas County Sheriff's Office Marine Unit, Multnomah County Search and Rescue, Portland Mountain Rescue, American Medical Response Reach and Treat Team and Mountain Wave Emergency Communications participated in a search of approximately 8 miles of the riverbank near where Mr. Zverev was last seen. The search yielded no sign of Zverev.

Clackamas County Sheriff's Office Search and Rescue Coordinators and American Medical Response Kayak Teams will continue a search of the river today beginning at 9:00 a.m. Recent heavy rains have swollen the river and winter storms have resulted in a large amount of debris in the water, which makes searching the water more difficult.

A photograph of Albert Zverev is now attached to this release.

There is no further information at this time.

The Clackamas County Sheriff's Office is coordinating a search and rescue operation for a reported missing 30-year-old male in the Austin Hot Springs area of the Clackamas River, in the Mount Hood National Forest. On Sunday, January 8, 2006 at 12:30 AM the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office received a report from the brother of this missing male; who told authorities he was recreating with his brother along the Clackamas River in the area of Hot Springs, along State Hwy 224, east of Estacada.

It was revealed the reporting party's brother last observed this missing person approximately four hours earlier (prior to the initial call). This reporting brother indicates he last observed his brother intoxicated and had been standing along the bank of the Clackamas River, in the Hot Springs area. Clackamas County Search and Rescue personnel have been on the scene coordinating this effort and are assisted by Clackamas County Marine Rescue personnel on scene. The Marine Rescue Unit responded after daylight to participate in this search operation along the Clackamas River. Understandably, the river is moving very swiftly, with a large volume of water, which is attributed to the persistent heavy rainfall. The Oregon Air National Guard Helicopter, 1042 Medical Company, is on the scene now searching this area for the missing person. This helicopter is equipped with a five-person unit on board for this type of operation.

AMR has their specialized unit, Reach and Treat (RAT) on standby, in the event this missing person is located in difficult terrain and in need of immediate attention. Members of the Portland Mountain Rescue Unit are also contributing to his search and rescue event. Participating in ground search activities in this area of the SAR concentration.

A Clackamas County Search and Rescue (SAR) command post has been established for this operation and is located approximately three miles east of Austin Hot Springs, along State Hwy 224, east of Estacada. Please understand: this is a difficult area to communicate with personnel. Cell phones are not functioning, and radio communication with SAR members on the scene is difficult. Updated information will be posted as received. With deference to the family, the name of this missing person and focus of this SAR operation will not be released at this time.
